A Lewis Pin is one of a category of lifting devices used by Stonemasons to lift large stones into place with a crane, chain block or winch. A lewis is most useful when it is not possible to lift the stone with chains or slings because of either the location or shape of the stone.
Pins should be examined by a competent person every 6mths and regularly by the user prior to lifting. All reports should be logged and copies kept with the associated pins.
Do NOT use pins if the serial numbers are not clearly visible or if any defects occur. These should then be labelled as UNSAFE TO USE and reported to the Health & Safety Officer.
Size of hole to be drilled - 36mm.
